The Toronto-Pickering Airport Durham Gateway Master Plan is for a major new airport on the east side of Toronto on a large site owned by the Federal Government of Canada. There were two components of the Master Plan: the airport; and a major new employment area within the Toronto Region.
The proposed airport would augment the existing airport infrastructure in the Toronto Region and would provide a full service airport catering to commercial airlines, logistics, corporate aviation, defence, and other general aviation. The three runways (12,000 feet, 10,500 feet, and 8,500 feet) and a 1 million square foot terminal would accommodate over 250,000 aircraft movements, 15 million passengers, and 200,000 tonnes of cargo annually.
The Advanced Enterprise Zone adjacent to the airport would focus on aerospace, automotive, logistics, defence, MRO, technology and services. The Advanced Enterprise Zone encompasses 3520 net acres of serviced employment land including 860 acres with direct runway access and can accommodate 40,000 – 50,000 jobs.
